A subtle-ish overhaul of vanilla Overworld biomes! Reworked!
Geophilic is a data pack/mod that improves vanilla Overworld biomes in a subtle and simple way! Inspiration comes from scrapped illustrations for what was supposed to be the Wild Update — this is essentially a collection of relatively light improvements to vanilla biomes without any new blocks, items, or even biomes.
Geophilic adds variety to a host of biomes. You can find a plethora of new features, from simple fallen trees to forest clearings. There are boulders, tree stumps, bushes, moss, and more. Trees remain true to vanilla, with the one major change being how tall trees generate, so you don't bump your head so often!
Care was taken to keep vanilla gameplay progression and feel. Geophilic does not make use of block palettes that would not be found in vanilla, nor does it add wood types to biomes they wouldn't be found in otherwise.
In short, this isn't meant to be an epic worldgen overhaul, but rather a simplistic and nice update to the feel of vanilla biomes.
Geophilic can be configured using Datapack Toolkit!
v3.0.0 and above, almost every non-ocean biome gets an overhaul.
v2.4.0: Badlands, Birch Forest, Cherry Grove, Dark Forest, Deep Ocean, Desert, Eroded Badlands, Flower Forest, Forest, Jungle, Meadow, Old Growth Birch Forest, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Plains, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Snowy Plains, Snowy Slopes, Stony Shore, Sunflower Plains, Swamp, Taiga, Windswept Forest, Windswept Savanna, Wooded Badlands
See the gallery for pictures!
Fabric/Quilt mod version requires either Fabric API or Quilted Fabric API!
New versions of the pack may differ slightly. I may make any changes, including the removal of features. While Minecraft can handle this and updating the mod won't corrupt your world, it's still good practice to make regular backups.
This pack modifies only vanilla biome files, which means it's fully compatible with mods and data packs that do terrain, such as Tectonic or Lithosphere!
Geophilic can be made compatible with Terralith. If that's something you're looking for, use Terraphilic.
If a data pack's description says it reworks vanilla biomes, it is most likely partially or fully incompatible.

Geophilic release 3.2 incorporates the Pale Garden rework!
- Reworked the Pale Garden biome
- Adjusted the biome's vegetation
- The Pale Oak has new variants that generate in the biome
- Touched up the Dark Forest biome rework
- Distribution of trees and vegetation was adjusted
- This also means giant mushrooms are now half as common
- The Dark Oak now has a new variant, with more interesting crowns, similar to what you can find in the Pale Garden
- Fixed bug where water could potentially generate on top of trees in the Stony Shores biome
Changes from Snap 3.2-c:
- Changed flower distribution in the Pale Garden, making Eyeblossoms somewhat more common
- Increased tree density in the Pale Garden
- Adjusted the slim root variant of the Pale Oak

This snap touches up the Dark Forest biome:
- The trees were changed up, and the dark oak now has a new variant, with more interesting crowns, similar to what you can find in the pale garden!
- The tree mix in the forest was modified to make the biome feel a bit more consistent. As a result of this, giant mushrooms will now generate half as much as before.
- The biome is now also a bit darker and eerier. This does mean mobs may spawn more often, so do test it out and see if that's to your liking.
This snap also fixes the bug where water could potentially generate on top of trees in the Stony Shores biome.

I'm happy to now release:
Geophilic 2.0!!
There was a lot reworked in 2.0. The most important changes are under the hood, where I mostly cleaned files up. On top of that though, the majority of biomes were redone completely, and now feel so much more alive than before! Feedback is still very welcome! There could be a few bugs that I haven't found while playtesting, so feel free to report those as well!
These are the changes when compared to vanilla:
Forests are completely revamped, with trees being taller and usually farther apart, making it much easier to traverse these biomes. Some chunks might have fewer trees than usual, creating small clearings. All forests now also feature rocks, bushes, fallen trees and tree stumps. Other flora, such as grass and flowers, is now also much more plentiful.
Plains and savanna biomes are now covered in much more flora. They can feature bushes, rocks, fallen trees and other things.
Deserts remain fairly unchanged. Cactuses spawn in larger patches and lava lakes are surrounded by sandstone. Sometimes you'll find dead trees too.
Known issues
Mushrooms seem to act really funny. I have encountered indestructible mushroom patches in my testing which I have yet to explain or find a solution for. It's really rare though, and you can destroy them by removing the block under them. Please report if it happens to you!
Full list of biomes
Badlands, Birch Forest, Dark Forest, Deep Ocean, Desert, Eroded Badlands, Flower Forest, Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Plains, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Snowy Plains, Snowy Slopes, Stony Shore, Sunflower Plains, Swamp, Taiga, Windswept Forest, Windswept Savanna, Wooded Badlands
Other notes
Stony Shore now has cool-looking stone pillars. This truthfully isn't something that'd be in vanilla, but they just look so cool. And Stony Shore is like the most boring biome anyway. Deep Ocean now also has cool pillar stones. If you have any suggestions on how I could improve ocean biomes, do leave a comment!
